Staff and students at Derwen regularly achieve awards success in different fields.

2021 Awards
December 2021
Derwen College was named as a finalist in the Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Awards 2021/22 in the Award for Mental Health and Wellbeing. The finalists were announced at the AoC Annual Conference on 17 November, and further judging took place in December.
The winners will be announced in early 2022.
September 2021 Award shortlist

Derwen College is excited to have been shortlisted for a NASEN Award in the 16-25 Provision category. The NASEN (National Association for Special Educational Needs) awards recognise excellence within the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) sector.
July 2021
Derwen College was shortlisted in the National SEND Awards in the Inclusion in Further and Higher Education category. The College was recognised for our work around Student Voice.
We are very proud to enable students to be heard, and are constantly working to create an inclusive Student Union Board where everyone’s thoughts and opinions are considered, and acted upon.
June 2021 Awards
Two Derwen College teachers have won highly-esteemed Pearson National Teaching Awards. Performing Arts lead, Jessie Vaughan, has won a Bronze award for her creative use of Digital Innovation to engage students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) during lockdown. Sports & Leisure Co-ordinator, Steve Evans, has been awarded a Silver in the Specialist Teacher of the Year category.
All Silver winners are put forward for the Gold stage, and Gold winners will be announced in the autumn. Read the full story and watch our coverage on BBC Midlands Today here.
June 2021
Derwen College scooped a highly prestigious award in the further education equivalent of the Oscars. The college has been named as Specialist Provider of the Year in the TES further education awards – one of the UK’s top awards for recognising those that work in further education.
Judges praised the college for doing everything in its power to continue its mission to create a world without barriers even during a pandemic. Read the full story on our latest news page.
March 2021 Awards
Derwen College was delighted to win an award in the UK Career Development Awards for our work in supporting students towards employment. The College was shortlisted in the Careers Programme in a Special School/College category.
The College was delighted to be recognised for its innovative approach to careers development which includes Support Work apps such as our revolutionary CV Builder app. The awards were announced at a virtual ceremony which you can watch here.
January 2021
Derwen College’s Walled Garden was recognised with a certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom campaign in the It’s Your Neighbourhood category. Judges were unable to visit the college garden but were keen to commend projects that supported their community during 2020.
RHS Community Development Manager Kay Clark said: “Through Bloom, It’s Your Neighbourhood, and other community gardening activities you have laid the strong foundations that helped make communities more resilient in these testing times. We want to recognise how important you all are, and how valuable your work is.”
