Peter, Ronan and Joy take a break backstage after the show.

Our Learning for Life students lit up the stage in the Student Union this week with a fantastic fashion show filled with confidence, colour and creativity.

Students and staff gathered to watch, clap and cheer as each young person stepped out to showcase an outfit they had designed themselves.

As part of their Agored qualification for Working as a Team, students were challenged to choose a theme, create a full outfit and select their own backing music. They also worked together throughout the project, building teamwork and communication skills. They listened to each other’s ideas, shared tasks and encouraged their classmates along the way.

The project also helped students develop practical skills. They researched ideas using ICT, planned and budgeted for their chosen items and created mood boards and spent time shopping in our The Vintage Advantage charity shop before bringing their final look to life. Their hard work really showed on the day.

Everyone did brilliantly. Some strutted down the runway like born performers. Others, who are usually a little shy, pushed themselves to try something new in front of a supportive audience. Every student received a huge round of applause.

Here are some of the catwalk hightlights. We think the themes are pretty obvious, but in case you’re not sure, they were:

  • Ronan – HipHop
  • Liam – Sport
  • Ed – Streetwear
  • Joy – 1970s
  • Alice – Wicked
  • Ryan – Sport
  • Ellie – Wicked
  • Peter – Abba
  • Benjamin – Summer

It was a joyful celebration of teamwork, independence and creativity. What a model team!
