Derwen College students showed their community spirit – and baking and retail skills – with a delicious fundraiser for Youth Awareness Day.
Youth Awareness Day was led by our Student Council, and involved students and staff across College. Hospitality & Food students baked an array of tasty cupcakes in the Food Centre as part of their learning, gaining valuable real-world experience in enterprise and teamwork.
Members of the Student Council took charge of selling the cakes in the Student Union during morning break and lunchtime. Each cake was sold for £1, and the event raised £49.15.
Staff and students across campus also wore blue to mark the occasion, showing unity and support for young people.
Funds raised will go towards the High Sheriff of Shropshire, Jane Trowbridge’s, youth-focused causes, helping to support and raise awareness of youth initiatives and charities across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
This event marked the final activity for the outgoing Student Council before the new 2025–26 Council is announced today (17 October).
Well done to everyone who baked, sold, supported, and wore blue for a great cause!
