Congratulations and a huge thank you to newlyweds Caroline and Steven Strachan, who used their wedding celebration to raise money for Derwen College Charity, a charity close to their hearts.
They invited wedding guests to make donations instead of giving gifts. Going on to raise over £2,000 to support our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) programme.
The couple, who live in Cheshire, were married on the Wirral in November. They were delighted to raise funds for the college, where Steven’s son Joseph is a student.
Their son Joe, a residential student, was both Best Man and Ring Bearer at the wedding.
Caroline said: “Joe has completed his Bronze DofE at Derwen College and started his Silver this year, so we were keen to raise money for the awards.
“It was a wonderful day, and we’re so proud of Joe and everything he has achieved.”
Joe has completed his Bronze and is now working towards his Silver award, developing confidence, independence and life skills through the programme. The funds raised will help more young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to access DofE opportunities including volunteering, skills development and expedition activities.
A huge thank you
Derwen College Fundraiser Bryony Wesson thanked Caroline, Steven and their guests for their support and contribution to the programme.
She said: “We are so grateful to Caroline, Steven and their guests for choosing to support Derwen College through their wedding celebration. Their generous donations will help more of our students take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme, which can be life changing. So many of our students have pushed personal boundaries to achieve things they never thought possible.”
Joe’s step-mum Caroline added: “Our amazing son, Joe, is thriving and developing his independence and life skills at College. We were so proud that he recently achieved his Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award – a wonderful milestone made possible through the encouragement and opportunities provided by the college.”
“Thank you so much to all our guests who celebrated this special moment with us and whose donations are helping to make a difference in Joe’s life and for other young people at Derwen College.”
