Former Chair of Governors K Kimber has given Derwen College a thoughtful parting gift that will benefit students, residents and visitors for many years to come.
K has donated funds for 10 new trees, chosen for their striking shades of green, yellow and red, which have now been planted across the Gobowen campus as a lasting symbol of her commitment to the College.
The trees were planted in several key areas, including the sports field and track, near Performing Arts, beside the Waterside classroom and close to the bungalow site. The project was one of the final tasks completed by retiring Head Gardener Don, supported by Horticulture teacher Dan Jones, client Anton Berry and Horticulture students.
K stepped down as Chair of Governors after more than a decade of dedicated service, having first joined the Board in 2005 and becoming Chair in 2012. She remains an active and valued trustee, continuing to champion the needs of young people with SEND and ensuring their voices remain at the heart of Board decision‑making.
Recently appointed Chair of Governors Jamie Ward paid tribute to K’s contribution and welcomed the new trees as a fitting reflection of her leadership and love for the Derwen College community.
Principal and CEO Meryl Green also offered her thanks, saying:
“K has given so much to Derwen College over many years. Her generous donation of trees is a wonderful legacy that will support our green ethos and bring joy to our community for decades. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has done and delighted that she will continue to serve as a trustee.”
The beautifully planted trees now stand as a living reminder of K’s dedication, vision and passion for Derwen College.
