A huge thank you to Pyjama Drama.
We’re delighted to shine a spotlight on Jane Liddiatt of Pyjama Drama, Shrewsbury, Oswestry and North Shropshire, as our Employer of the Month. Jane hosts Performing Arts student Mia for a weekly work experience placement at Pyjama Drama. Mia and a dedicated college job coach attend every Thursday.
Pyjama Drama provides interactive drama, music and movement sessions for children aged six months to seven years. They help to build creativity, confidence, empathy and communication through imaginative play. Weekly sessions for nurseries, pre-schools and schools are designed to support early years and foundation stage goals while encouraging children to learn through drama and movement.
Jane said: “Mia has been coming to Pyjama Drama since September, and I can see her confidence growing each week. She’s using Makaton for our singing sessions, and I’m really enjoying learning some signs with her.
“I have a passion for helping the community. I had never worked with learners with SEND before, but I felt it was something I would enjoy and that I could offer something different to students studying Performing Arts. This is my first year having a work experience student from Derwen College, and I hope to continue working with them in the future.”
Without supportive employer partnerships like this one, we would not be able to offer such a diverse range of work placement opportunities to our students and supported interns.
Jane said: “I would recommend other businesses to host and work with a student. It has brought me great joy to see her confidence grow over the last few months. I have enjoyed expanding my knowledge and understanding of the needs of the individuals I am working with. I have visited Derwen College to meet the Performing Arts students and attend the Lunch and Learn employer session, which I’ve really enjoyed.”
Thank you to Pyjama Drama, and to all of our local and national employer partners, for supporting our students to build the skills and confidence needed to help them access future employment.
