Derwen College was filled with music, colour, dancing and fun as students and staff came together for a Pride Month celebration.

The annual Derwen Pride celebration took place on 12 June, bringing the College community together for an afternoon focused on inclusion, equality and celebrating individuality.

Usual curriculum sessions were paused for the afternoon so that everyone had the chance to get involved and enjoy the party atmosphere. The afternoon began with a lively Performing Arts concert, followed by a colourful Derwen Pride Parade and a daytime disco in the Student Union. It was a fun and uplifting way for students and staff to mark Pride Month together, while showing support for equality, acceptance and inclusion.

We are very proud of our strong culture of inclusion, which was recognised in our recent Ofsted report where we were commended on our Student Council advocacy groups, including a Pride group for LGBTQ+ learners and allies and a representative on the Student Council.

Thank you to everyone who helped organise the event, took part, performed, danced and and made the afternoon such a fabulous celebration. We can’t wait to go even bigger and better for our centenary celebrations next year!
