There was plenty of dancing, cheering and singing along at our Gobowen campus this week when Levi and Louiz from indie pop band Split Second dropped in for a live set and some important life lessons.
The pair treated students and staff to a mix of original tracks and crowd-pleasing covers, including classics from Oasis and Stereophonics. Bandmates Ava and Jack weren’t able to make it on this visit, but Levi and Louiz more than made up for it with a big sound and brilliant energy.
Between songs, Louiz spoke openly about his own experiences of bullying at school and encouraged everyone to look out for each other – online as well as in person. The message was simple and powerful: choose kindness, tell someone if something doesn’t feel right, and remember that cyberbullying is still bullying.
Louiz said: “Tell someone you trust, be yourself, and find your passion. For me, that was music and guitar. For you, it might be performing or sport.”
After the gig, students quizzed the band in a Q&A. Ash asked how they got together. Levi and Louiz explained they met at music school and have been making music together for five years. Byron wanted to know how many songs they’ve written so far: around 30 are ready to go, with about 50 in total.
Malcolm even suggested they should go on Britain’s Got Talent and could win. When Joy asked about their favourite songs to sing, Levi went straight for Oasis, while Louiz picked one of their own originals, Baby Blue.
Other wider questions included: which football team do you support, and what’s your favourite cake? (West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City and chocolate cake!)

Split Second have grown from a group of friends into a dynamic band, playing festivals and events and gigging across the UK. The Bromsgrove-based musicians blend relatable lyrics with infectious melodies, putting their own fresh spin on indie Brit pop.
To round off the fantastic afternoon, Levi and Louiz led a singalong of “Happy Birthday” for student CJ and told students and staff they were “the best audience we’ve ever had”. Huge thanks to Split Second and The Prime Agency for organising.
