Here’s some handy information about the Derwen Sponsored Walk and Fun Run taking place on Sunday 31st March 2019
This is a 10k circular route around Gobowen starting and finishing at Derwen College. Please arrive at reception (registration) between 10 and 11am as the the walk will start from The Orangery entrance at 11am. The route will be well marshalled and signposted, and halfway round you will have the option to take part in the 6k route if you find you can’t complete the 10k option. The terrain is relatively flat, but at time the roads can be quite narrow.
Please wear sensible shoes – the roads can be quite muddy, but we are sure the scenery and company will over compensate for a bit of mud!
It is important to follow the Highway Code whilst on the walk. Please click here for the Highway Code Rules for Pedestrians.
All walkers should return to college by 2pm please.
You will need to register prior to 31st March – registration can be done online or by contacting Anna Evans on 01691 661234 ext 395.
On the day, you will need to go to the registration point from 10am to let us know you have arrived. Follow the signs from the car park to registration.
Parking will be via the Agnes Hunt Village which is accessed from Whittington Road. If you are using a satnav to come to the walk, please use post code SY11 3NB. Turn in to Agnes Hunt village and follow the signs to the parking.
If you are coming to Derwen on foot you can come in via The Orangery entrance on Whittington Road in Gobowen.
Sponsorship and donations
Alternatively you can make a donation towards the walk through our Virgin Money page.
Bring a drink! We do advise that you bring your own drink with you to ensure you have enough for the walk. All marshals will have bins with them to dispose of litter and recycling, and there will be bottle recycling and bins on-site at Derwen. Please remember to dispose of your litter responsibly.
When you have completed the walk/fun run you will be given your refreshments voucher. Teas, coffees and hot soup will be available from the training kitchen (former Tiffins building) for all walkers and runners.
You will be walking in some beautiful countryside with with great company, but if you do find you are struggling or you don’t think you will be back at college by 2pm, please let one of the marshals know – they will be able to arrange a lift back to the college.
Check the local weather prior to the walk
Toilets are available on-site at Derwen College and also at Henlle Park Golf Club.
Let us know how you are getting on
We continue to fundraise to provide our students with opportunities to enhance their learning and independence skills. Derwen College relies on donations to make this happen. We raise funds to provide the specialist tools, equipment and experiences our students need to reach their goals.
If you are unable to take part in the Sponsored Walk, there are other ways of supporting Derwen during 2019:
