As a learner on the Vocational Pathway you will work in a small group in an office based environment. There will be a range of work based activities in business and IT as well as retail and craft opportunities. In addition, the Pathway will help you improve your English, maths and ICT.
You will be supported to develop your confidence and work preparation skills, as well as your personal, social and independence skills. Your timetable will be designed around you to ensure your development and progression needs are met. Where appropriate you can gain accreditation.
Learners will be able to:
- Progress their Award to a Certificate at the same ability level
- Progress to an Award or Certificate at the next ability level – up to Level 2
- Take part in external work placements within the local community where possible
Supported internships are specifically aimed at young people who want to move into employment and need extra support to do so.
Supported internships are based primarily at an employer’s premises and are not so much a college course as an employment programme designed to get the learners into work. They are designed to enable disabled young people to achieve sustainable paid employment. Young people are equipped with the skills they need for employment through learning in the workplace.
The Vocational Pathway is for young adults aged between 16 and 25 with learning difficulties, disabilities and challenging needs, who live in or around south Shropshire. Those accessing the course will have an interest in business and IT based activities and be working at Entry Level (including pre-entry) or Level 1. Individual learning plans matching abilities are established after a pre-entry assessment visit.
