National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS)
25th July 2018 - 1st August 2018£199.00
This lifeguarding qualification is an excellent foundation for a career in the leisure industry and for sports men and women involved in any type of water sports.
Train with Kelli, our national award winning lifeguard at Derwen!
The Royal Life Saving Society National Pool Lifeguard Qualification course (NPLQ), covered over 37.5 hours, plus an external assessment (normally over 5.5 days), will qualify you to work as a Lifeguard in any public swimming pool.
The NPLQ course is recognised by all the professional bodies in leisure, and will help employers and operators meet their legal requirements to provide qualified and competent Lifeguards. The skills and knowledge gained are also valuable outside of work for anyone involved in water sports and may help save someone’s life. The course that we run at Derwen College includes training to use an Automated External Defibrillator which we find most employers look for when hiring new Lifeguards.
You can download a qualification poster here.

Assessment, Certification and Re-Certification:
At the end of the course there is a formal assessment by an external examiner where trainees must demonstrate the skills and knowledge learnt during the course. Trainees will receive a certificate after successful completion of the course, and the NPLQ and AED certificate is valid for two years.
If you complete the required criteria of training over the duration of your qualification then you can be re-assessed at the end of the two year period, or you can attend another full course. Derwen College can provide on-going training once you have passed your course assessment.
