Student Support
A wide range of support services enable curriculum access:
Medical support:
The Medical Centre is staffed by trained nurses for medication, dressings and treatments and the College doctor holds a daily surgery. Specialist equipment is available in the Medical Centre and main residences and the chiropodist attends regularly.
Physiotherapy:
Physiotherapy programmes support students to access the curriculum by enhancing their mobility and independence. A range of group sessions is available, including hydrotherapy, and individual treatments include exercise and stretching programmes, electrotherapy and acupuncture.
Speech and Language Therapy:
The assessment term includes assessment of communication needs. For those students with specific speech and language difficulties direct and indirect therapy is available either individually or in a group. The college is a Makaton Centre of Excellence.
Personal counselling:
Every student is allocated a named personal counsellor prior to arrival and has immediate access to their personal counsellor throughout the three year course.
Behaviour management and psychological support:
The psychological support team works with students to develop coping strategies for behavioural difficulties.
Personal Tutorials:
All students receive guidance and support through the personal tutorial system. The personal tutors are responsible for setting up and monitoring the individual learning programmes.
Dyslexia:
Students with specific learning difficulties are identified and assessed to develop an individual support programme, based on the degree and nature of the difficulties.
