Sport
Derwen College has an excellent reputation for sport and is a member of many national and local sports associations, including the North Shropshire Special Olympics group, the British Skiing Association for the Disabled and the Special Olympics West Midlands Skiing Group. The College has an outstanding sporting record, with students having won international and Special Olympic honours for swimming, horse riding and gymnastics.

The modern sports centre on campus includes a heated indoor swimming pool, fitness suite and sports hall. Visits to local and national sports facilities are regularly arranged for participation in keep-fit, golf, skiing and athletics. There are outdoor and indoor facilities available for tennis, basketball and wheelchair basketball, with the latter two being timetabled options, and fixtures are arranged against local teams. Badminton, unihoc and volleyball are very popular indoor activities. Table tennis takes place in the social centre and the Derwen team competes in the local table tennis league.
Students can learn to swim or work towards the Amateur Swimming Association distance and challenge awards in timetabled sessions. Recreational swimming takes place in the evenings and week-ends. Water polo is a weekly evening activity, with fixtures against other teams. There is a swimming gala held in the summer, with events for different abilities.
Students may choose to have riding lessons at a nearby equestrian centre, as timetabled sessions, and work towards Riding for the Disabled Proficiency Awards.
Football is a major sport at the College; students of all abilities can choose to play in timetabled sessions or as an evening activity on indoor and outdoor pitches. The College soccer team is composed of both students and staff with a full 7-a-side fixture list against local sides. Similarly, regular outdoor 5-a-side competitions are held in the summer against visiting teams. There are also trips to Premiership and Championship matches arranged throughout the football season.
