NATSPEC Art Competition hosted by Derwen College
The Competition:
Students from NATSPEC colleges are being invited to take part in an exciting new competition and art exhibition hosted by Derwen College.
Theme: Olympic Countries
Student Artists are invited to take inspiration from any country participating in the Olympic Games in Britain 2012. There is no requirement for the work to contain a sporting theme but should reflect the art and culture of the chosen country.
The Judges:
Art work will be judged by an independent panel made up of representatives from local and national galleries.
The Awards:
Shortlisted artwork will go on display at The Gallery at Derwen College during Spring 2012.
The top three prize winners will then go on a touring exhibition of well known Galleries.
Categories:
Entries are welcome in the following two categories:
• 2D – all wall hung work (max size A1)
• 3D – all plinth standing (max base size A4)
All artwork must be signed by the student artist.
Timeline:
First Round Judging –
Deadline for entries is 2nd December 2011.
All first stage entries to be photographed and sent via e-mail as a digital image. No artwork to be sent at this stage. Entrants will be notified by the end of January 2012 if they have been successful in progressing onto the second round.
Second Round Judging –
All shortlisted artwork will go forward to the second round and actual artwork will be required to go in front of the judging panel at Derwen College. Date to be confirmed.
Private View -
All second round entries will go into the Derwen College exhibition and entrants will be invited to attend a private view event at which the top three prize winners will be announced.
Marking criteria:
A maximum of 20 marks will be awarded for each of the following –
• Originality of idea
• Use of colour
• Use of materials
• Overall composition
• Presentation
