Introduction

Assessment in all aspects of the curriculum defines an individual programme reflecting each student's aspirations, learning styles and support requirements.

Our aim is to provide further education in its broadest sense, including the teaching of vocational skills and the development of independent living and social competences. The extended curriculum is designed to support students in their transition towards independence.

We are proud of the high standards that have helped to establish Derwen College as one of the leading specialist colleges in the country. Proud, too, of our tradition of having students from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds.

The quality of teaching and learning is central to all the work of the College. Learning experiences are matched to the needs and aspirations of the students through individual learning programmes. The successes and attainments of all our students confirm the effectiveness of the Derwen philosophy and curriculum.

The recent Social Care Inspection report highlights many key strengths and confirms that "the aspirations and needs of the students are systematically identified and & are met by a very wide range of training and social opportunities".
