Enamelling

By Jack, Tofi & Cathryn

In enamelling sessions we do all kinds of enamelling, from making buttons, jewellery, cards and decorations. In the sessions we are shown how to make enamel stick to copper and other kinds of metals using the very hot kilns. We time the piece of copper from 30 seconds to 1 minute before taking it out of the kiln using a timer otherwise it will burn. Sometimes this makes the pieces of work / copper look really good. Sometimes it doesn’t.

It is fun making your own piece of jewellery. We also sell our buttons and other enamelling work at the college summer fete and we often have Christmas sales in the Practical Skills department.
