The Creative Arts Department provides an exciting range of opportunities for students to develop their creative, personal and work skills within a lively learning environment. Students gain hands-on experience of a wide variety of activities across the Visual and Performing Arts areas and develop their vocational skills through work-related activities. The department’s annual fashion and Christmas productions and seasonal Art exhibitions are highlights of the college calendar.

In the Visual Arts Area, the students develop practical skills through craft and design work across a range of subjects including Mixed Media, Textiles, Fashion, Theatre Craft, Ceramics, Glass and Home Design.

In Fashion sessions, the students consider clothing design trends alongside aspects of personal presentation and appropriate dress. In Home Design sessions, the students plan and create interior design schemes within a realistic room setting, opening up creative possibilities for post-college life.

Students in the Visual and Performing Arts areas work together on aspects of Theatre Craft, including the design and production of scenery, costumes and props for college performances.

The Performing Arts Area focuses on development of skills in the core disciplines of Dance, Music and Drama and provides an excellent vehicle for the development of confidence and communication skills. The Performing Arts curriculum is complimented by regular theatre trips and links with external performance groups.

The department offers a range of internal work experience opportunities including The Gallery and the Team Enterprise Scheme. The Creative Arts Gallery provides students with experience of designing and creating artwork for sale and opportunities to interact with the public on a day to day basis and at regular private views of themed exhibitions. Through the Team Enterprise Scheme students work together to set up and run their own company, experiencing many of the related real life issues and gaining invaluable team working skills.

The Creative Arts Department offers Foundation Learning accreditation leading to a destination pathway in supported employment.
